Read this when it came out and a third time now with my own copy. Bourdains visceral in the trenches writing style still engages, it’s also a quick read that doesn’t outstay its welcome.

I have no idea of the level of embellishment, or how his pirate crew fits 20 years later but he seems reasonably self aware through. A great enjoyable read.

I went in with the understanding this was a book about a bunch of whatif science problems so enjoyed it. The author did a good job of keeping things moving forward without getting too bogged down in detail. The structure of the story meant the protagonist was maybe the most upbeat superhuman I’ve met so it there was no emotional stakes but that was by design.

Hard not to read the story in lemmys distinctive voice as it feels like a series of recordings. Not a bad thing. As solid read given he was active up to the end but towards the end, perhaps because the lineup was a well oiled machine things wrapped up quickly concluding with hammered.

Had some interesting information of what was happening at Disney at the time this was developed, but with most of the issues being in marketing, management rather than juicy stories in production it felt quite flat and fell back on fandom to pad things out.

Good read. Setup and development of story and characters is well done.

Not an enjoyable read but provided some history and insight.

A random pick and first William Gibson novel. Noisy and Descriptive. world felt like Transmet in text form.

Engaging biography. Lots of time spent detailing events around his greatest works and some choice insights into a character that remained inscrutable to outsiders. Am not overly familiar with his work but enjoyed the read.

I enjoyed the oppressive tone and writing style. Not a book for those who want sharp focussed action. Would have rated it higher my was put off by commenters elsewhere who thought the Novel was the second coming and couldn’t exist alongside the movie.
