From micro to macroscale thriller. From characters driven by self agendas to galaxy scale issues, the book's got it all. Kin Liu's translation is direct and crispy that lead me to finish the 400 pager in less than 3 days. But it came at a cost of losing the empirical value behind the emotional writing that leaves an impression on the reader's experience. A great book, and while I'd add 'fun' and 'fast' adjectives, it is impressive and epic in scope. Amazing concepts and ideas. Loved it.

Having read this on several recommendation threads in Fantasy reddit for having lyrical quality and a tendency to move you, while having no fantastical elements at all(called historical fantasy) I took the book up. The story's background is inspired by Moorish Spain, and so, for people who know the history of the peninsula the ending is guessable. But that did not deter me even a bit from enjoying the story, particularly the four characters of Ammar ibn Khairan of Ashrite(parallel to Islam), Jehane of Kidath(of Judaism), Rodrigo Belmonte of Jad(of Christianity) and Alvar de Pellino a young Jaddite soldier. The religions in the book does not have any similarities with the real world ones. Main themes in the book are the bigotry and tolerance, while introspective analysis of the consequences and motivations of going to a war. The writing was perfectly paced, with constant back story to make the reader …

Having written poetry himself, Guy finishes the book with a dual inter-spread with verses about a poem on Love. The book tore my heart, it shook me, it left me wanting for more. The author knows how to move the story and mostly to set the environment and take the reader to his realm. Contrary of the other series I was reading - Malazan, the effort and ease with which reader enters the author's realm is smooth(no comparison between the two, Malazan by itself is an amazing work). The book gave me a feeling of satisfaction and fulfillment of having read something that will stay with me for long time. A definite recommendation.

Amos introduction. Good info about how the Earth was, just before the Leviathan wakes started. Would've liked it more if it really had story on how he met he gang and they left for the first journey. All in all, a good novella.

If you are looking for a sci-fi book to immerse you in awe but is firmly grounded in plausibility, carry anthropological debates, yet excites you at the edge of the seat – you gotta read this book More here
I'd not advise any friend of mine to read this. Slow, annoying and with calculated bread crumbs of plots. This seemed to have stemmed from the writer having a list of points he needed his book to comply on and went on to write- ticking them off. Good world building, good character building although the whole story was behind that character building paragraphs..
