Coming off of book burnout looking for 1900s-1930s murder mystery/lady detective series and anything similar to Life of Pi by Yann Martel/philosophical novels and anything else I have rated nicely. I review based on my enjoyment not literary excellence, so if you find a well written book rated low that is why. I might even enjoy the author's other works.

the parts I found interesting I would eat up but the parts I found dull were so very dull.

I have now seen the companion piece movie that this book was published for. The movie was more fun but did not reference these pages until the end scene which was very confusing to me and felt like it was tacked on after filming most of the movie. Would have loved a story that followed the movie plot or some sort of reassurance we are getting the other four books referred to in the movie but I doubt that will happen.

A perfect prequel

5 stars

I really well enjoyed the accompanying book Legends and Lattes which was published first. I of course needed to pick up its prequel. I found I enjoyed this book even more than the first. A little more action than the previous book but I would still solidly place this book in the cozy fantasy genre. I found myself breezing through the pages and reading during breaks at work just to finish. I again would recommend this for a relaxing read.

Cozy fantasy

5 stars

While I am new to cozy fantasy as a genre, I thoroughly enjoyed my first taste with Legends and Lattes. While I was on edge waiting for action I am so used to getting in fantasy, I was not disappointed when little came. I found myself wanting to try a hand at baking the treats found in the little cafe from Thune. And I am not known for my cooking nor baking skills. I highly recommend for a relaxing read.
