One aspect I forgot to mention is that I really enjoyed the setting since I have been to Cayo (western Belize, near the Guatemala border) and practicing my "tourist gaze" quite recently. I'm not sure if this kind of nostalgia really says much about the book other than that it does a good job of evoking modern Belize.
