As a science fiction novel, this is terrible. It pretends to be hard sci-fi, but is actually very soft sci-fi. It's almost like Quantum Leap, if Quantum Leap was written by an idiot.

They did eventually grow up and redeem themselves partway through the second book, but I'm honestly amazed I was able to continue reading after how bad the first book really was.
