One of the greatest stories I've read. Some authors devour concepts, others characters and few great authors indulge in twists of the plot. How would it be if all three gets together and on top of it, written by two authors, interconnected by a time interval that spun over two decades -- this is the novel, or more specifically novella-couplet.

The story revolves around what happens during the end of the universe and dwells into the concept of parallel universes, time dilated events while trouncing on the concepts that make our lives, the impact of parent-child connection, of self realization while preaching a small philosophical adage that being in peace with oneself is the best a man's singularity can experience.

A must-read, especially the icing on the cake that is the final chapter.

A great story about changing times and how a person would feel on returning to his home, or shall I say the place he left, after a while, how the changes there impacted him and how the old habits of love and longing don't die. Filled with lot of military jargon but lesser social details other than like a skim book, on the universe that William Mandella visits after 'jumping' through time at the end of each of his war. Absolutely loved the story and the facets of the war and life of a soldier the author had given importance to. I did not like the indirect or convoluted story telling at times, especially during the preparation of the last war. The author then seems to convey that the old methods don't grow out, by the usage of non-tech fighting weapons at the end. The last ending was a bit …

Amazing but tough to read sequel to the hugo award winning Hyperion follows the pilgrims on their voyage to the unpredictable Hyperion. Taking parallels from the life of the poet John Keats the story revolves about the place the AI holds in the people's lives. Tough choices, reasonings and an ending that contradicts the facade of the book, a brilliant voyage where the people from the future have no better music than the celebrated classics and Beatles coated with great science fiction ideas about instant travel. This is tough especially at the ending but sure worth the experience. I wished Dan SImmons had been more crisp with the thoughts, seemed elaborate than what would've suited the flow of the book but still loved it.

Georgia on my mind, and other places (1995, Tor) 5 stars

Great collection of short stories, stories that are earthly but science fiction, that are grandiose but concise, that are epic but heartfelt. Some of them moved me to tears - like the Humanity test, some made me shudder - the Bee's kiss, but the mega ending was for the last short story - Georgia on my mind.

No one can review this book. It moved me, it shaked my inner understanding, made me reorder my priorities, made me happy inside. This did what no non-fiction book or any friend could do, it gave me myself back. I will forever be indebted to John.
